Water Heater Installation Singapore

Every water heater is two jobs: a plumbing job and an electrical one. We do the electrical half properly, heater point, isolator, earthing, and a circuit sized for what your heater actually draws.

  • EMA-licensed electrical workers
  • Loading checked before you buy
  • Earthing tested, not assumed

Storage vs instant: what your wiring sees

Storage heater

Heats a tank slowly, moderate, sustained draw.

Needs a dedicated circuit and a 20A isolator.

Friendlier to older flats with original loading.

Instant heater

Heats on demand, a heavy surge every time the tap opens.

Multiple units multiply the peak load.

Older, non-upgraded flats may hit their loading ceiling, check first.

Why heaters and RCCBs have a relationship

The most common heater emergency we see is not a dead heater, it is a heater that trips the RCCB. That is almost always current leaking from a degraded element, and the RCCB is doing precisely its job: keeping that leak out of your shower. If your heater trips the power, treat it as a real warning. Stop using it, and have the element and earthing tested, it is a quick, inexpensive diagnosis and occasionally a genuinely life-saving one. Water heater wiring FAQs

Do plumbers or electricians install water heaters in Singapore?

Both, for different halves. The plumber handles pipes, mounting and water connections. The electrical half, the heater point, isolator switch, earthing and any new circuit, is legally Licensed Electrical Worker territory. Many heater jobs need both trades; skipping the electrician half is where problems start.

How much does the electrical side of a heater installation cost?

Market rates: connecting a heater to an existing point about S$50, a 20A isolator switch about S$160, and earthing work about S$50. If your flat needs a new dedicated circuit for a storage heater, that is quoted per the cable run. The heater unit itself and plumbing are separate.

Why does my water heater keep tripping the RCCB?

A heater that trips the RCCB is usually leaking current, commonly a degraded heating element letting current reach the water or casing. That trip is protecting you from a genuine shock hazard. Stop using it and have the element tested; do not bypass or hold the breaker.

Can my old flat run an instant heater in every bathroom?

Maybe not. Instant heaters draw heavy current on demand, and flats with original (non-upgraded) electrical loading can be limited in how many heavy loads they support. We check your loading and DB capacity before you buy heaters the wiring cannot feed.

Does a water heater need its own switch?

Yes, a heater should have a dedicated isolator (typically 20A for storage heaters) so it can be fully cut off for maintenance and safety. The glowing neon on your heater switch is telling you the circuit is live.
