Is rewiring an HDB flat necessary?
When the wiring is at end of life, yes. HDB flat wiring is commonly described as designed for about 25 years, and HDB advises replacement when lifespan is over or condition has deteriorated. A 30-year-old flat on original wiring is overdue an inspection; a 10-year-old flat almost never needs it.
What are the HDB rules for rewiring?
Two are non-negotiable: all wiring installation work must be carried out by an EMA licensed electrical worker, and wiring must be housed in metal or high-impact PVC conduit. Certain works also need an HDB renovation permit, including new 15A points in flats without upgraded loading.
How long does HDB rewiring take, and can I live in during it?
